Although platinum is a strong and durable metal, it can still be scratched, marked or distorted if subjected to significant impact or pressure.
Rings in particular experience frequent contact with hard surfaces, so we recommend removing them for activities such as exercise, heavy lifting, gardening or DIY, in line with our general jewellery care advice.
Settings & stone-set jewellery
Platinum is often used for diamond and gemstone settings because of its durability.
However, claws, settings and other areas of the jewellery still experience wear and should be checked regularly.
If a stone begins to move, a claw appears worn or anything feels different from usual, stop wearing the piece and contact us so we can take a look.
Cleaning
For uncomplicated platinum jewellery, gentle cleaning with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush may be suitable.
Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
If the piece contains diamonds, gemstones, pearls or another material, always follow the care guidance for the most delicate part of the jewellery.
Avoid abrasive cleaners and aggressive polishing at home.
A note on wear
Fine scratches, surface marks and the gradual development of a patina are normal characteristics of platinum jewellery worn over time.
How quickly these changes appear will depend on how frequently the piece is worn and the activities it is exposed to.
