Sparrow, Periwinkle Blue & Pink – Original Painting by Heidi Langridge
Heidi Langridge sparrow artwork ‘Sparrow, Periwinkle Blue & Pink’ transforms a familiar British garden bird through an unexpected and wonderfully contemporary palette. The sparrow is carefully observed against deep periwinkle blue, with soft pink forms creating warmth and contrast around the subject.
The richness of the blue immediately gives the composition presence, while the gentler pink introduces a playful softness. Heidi Langridge’s loose, expressive shapes hint at foliage and habitat without attempting to reproduce a literal landscape. This freedom allows the bird to sit clearly at the centre of the work while colour becomes an equally important part of the visual experience.
Heidi’s paintings are inspired by the natural world surrounding her South Downs studio, where she has been creating for more than 17 years. Birds appear repeatedly in her practice, not simply as wildlife subjects but as characters capable of suggesting personality, emotion and connection.
Her intention is not to depict natural bird behaviour with scientific precision. Instead, Heidi subtly shifts the way her subjects occupy their surroundings, allowing us to read their stance and presence almost as we might respond to another person. The suggested habitats act as a stage, keeping each bird grounded while preserving the expressive, abstract quality of the composition.
Thissparrow artwork is created on board, presented framed and measures 30 x 30cm. Its intimate scale makes it easy to introduce into a home, while the combination of periwinkle blue and pink gives it enough confidence to hold its own within a larger gallery wall.
Available from KATA in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, ‘Sparrow, Periwinkle Blue & Pink’ is an original contemporary artwork for those drawn to colour, British birdlife and art with personality.
