Greenfinch, Greens – Original Painting by Heidi Langridge
Heidi Langridge greenfinch artwork ‘Greenfinch, Greens’ celebrates the subtle beauty of this familiar British bird through a rich and harmonious palette. The greenfinch sits confidently amongst overlapping areas of fresh lime, olive and deeper leafy green, allowing its warm plumage and pale beak to emerge naturally from the surrounding colour.
Rather than recreating a literal woodland or garden setting, Heidi Langridge uses broad, expressive forms to suggest foliage and habitat. This approach gives the artwork a contemporary quality, balancing careful observation of the bird with the freedom of abstraction. The eye is drawn first to the greenfinch itself before moving through the varied greens surrounding it, discovering shifts in tone, shape and texture.
Birds are central to Heidi’s artistic practice. Working from her home studio on the South Downs, where she has been creating for more than 17 years, she draws inspiration from the natural world and the vibrant coastal environment nearby. Her subjects are celebrated not simply for their physical beauty, but for the personality and presence they bring to each composition.
Heidi is particularly interested in how birds occupy a painted space. Her intention is not to reproduce natural behaviour precisely, but to allow each bird to take on a character of its own. The loose, suggested habitats provide a setting without becoming overly descriptive, keeping the subject firmly centre stage.
This greenfinch artwork is created on board, presented framed and measures 30 x 30cm. Its compact proportions make it particularly versatile for the home, whether displayed alone or incorporated into a collection of original artworks.
Available from KATA in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, ‘Greenfinch, Greens’ is an uplifting original artwork for collectors drawn to British birdlife, expressive colour and contemporary art inspired by nature
