Pearls

Pearls are naturally delicate and should be treated with a little extra care.

Their surface can be affected by cosmetics, chemicals, moisture and friction, so gentle handling will help preserve their appearance.

Helping to protect your pearls

Alongside our general jewellery care advice, we recommend:

– putting pearl jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, skincare and makeup

– removing it before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping

– avoiding direct contact with creams, oils, cleaning products and other chemicals

– storing pearls separately from harder gemstones and metal jewellery that may scratch their surface

After wear, gently wipe pearls with a clean, soft cloth to remove any surface oils or residue.

Avoid abrasive polishing products, jewellery dips and ultrasonic cleaners.

If the piece is strung, avoid soaking it, as repeated moisture can also affect the thread or stringing material.

Pearls can gradually develop small surface marks or changes in appearance through wear.

If your pearl jewellery is strung, the thread may also stretch or weaken over time and may eventually require professional restringing.

If anything feels loose or looks unusually worn, stop wearing the piece and contact us for advice.
