Goldfinch, Cobalt Blue & Green – Original Painting by Heidi Langridge
Heidi Langridge goldfinch cobalt artwork ‘Goldfinch, Cobalt Blue & Green’ is a vibrant original filled with saturated colour and expressive energy. Brilliant cobalt blue dominates the background, while layered areas of fresh and deep green surround the bird and give the composition a wonderful sense of movement.
Heidi Langridge’s work often combines carefully observed avian subjects with backgrounds that move towards abstraction. Rather than painting a literal habitat, she uses loose forms and strong colour to suggest foliage, allowing the natural world to remain present without becoming overly descriptive.
The intense blue makes this particular artwork immediately striking. Against it, the softer greens and warmer tones of the bird create contrast and visual balance. The eye moves between subject and surrounding colour, allowing both the recognisable and abstract elements of the work to be enjoyed.
For more than 17 years, Heidi has worked from her home studio on the South Downs, drawing inspiration from the natural world and the vibrant coastal environment nearby. Her paintings celebrate birds and encourage viewers to consider the individual personality and presence of each subject.
Heidi has explained that the positioning of birds within her paintings is especially important. She is not trying to reproduce natural behaviour exactly; instead, she allows pose and placement to hint at characteristics we might recognise in ourselves.
This goldfinch artwork is created on board, presented framed and measures 30 x 30cm. Although modest in scale, the strength of the cobalt blue and green palette gives it considerable visual presence.
Available from KATA in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, ‘Goldfinch, Cobalt Blue & Green’ offers an uplifting and contemporary interpretation of British birdlife.
