‘At Home In The Quiet’
Tuesday 6th January – Thursday 30th April
Our First Fine Art Exhibition of 2026 brings together oil painters
Jude Askey-Brown & Hannah Buchanan

Jude Askey-Brown
Jude Askey-Brown is an oil painter based in Kent, working from her studio on the Godinton House Estate. Her work celebrates the beauty of the everyday, drawing on observation, memory and the quiet passage of time. Inspired by domestic life, gardens and collected objects, Jude creates richly layered paintings that explore colour, texture and pattern.
The works currently exhibited focus predominantly on geraniums, inspired by memories of her grandfather’s windowsills filled with terracotta pots, tangled stems and new spring growth. Painted in oil, these works are built through expressive, physical mark making using brushes, rags and scrapers, creating surfaces rich with texture and depth.
Patterned backdrops and glimpses of underlying layers give the paintings a sense of history and familiarity, capturing fleeting moments rooted in memory rather than exact representation. Through these intimate compositions, Jude invites the viewer into scenes that feel both personal and universal, quietly celebrating the poetry of domestic life.
Hannah Buchanan
Hannah Buchanan is a British landscape painter based in Kent, whose work is deeply rooted in a lifelong connection to the surrounding countryside. Painting primarily in oils, Hannah is drawn to rural settings for their tranquillity and sense of familiarity, creating landscapes that feel calm, timeless and quietly immersive.
The works currently exhibited are a selection of small original oil paintings painted en plein air, completed on location across the Kent countryside. Working quickly and instinctively, these studies capture fleeting moments of light, atmosphere and changing weather.
Soft textures, carefully layered paint and an assured handling of colour give the works a natural ease, while her treatment of sky and water is particularly masterful, evoking both movement and stillness.
Stripped of modern distractions, Hannah’s landscapes invite the viewer to pause, reconnect and appreciate the subtle beauty of the world around them.
