Hannah Buchanan | Dreaming of Warmer Days

Beautifully capturing the delicacy of the Kentish countryside, Hannah Buchanan works from her greenhouse studio in her garden in Biddenden. Each of her paintings is based on a study done on location, with the final piece being painted in the studio. Hannah’s scenes disconnect the viewer from the busyness of life. Calm still waters, lush countryside and open skies bring us into those quiet places in nature where we can all feel at peace.

Many of Hannah Buchanan’s scenic landscapes were captured during the periods of “lockdown” when so many of us sought solace in the raw beauty of the great outdoors. Hannah expresses these moments in time and these feelings of gratitude and admiration for the natural world by enhancing her colour pallet; natural blue skies become a bold and vibrant blue and buttercup filled meadows become an ocean of fluorescent yellow speckles. At the same time as evoking these feelings and memories Hannah’s scenes are not fixed and do not restrict the viewer to a specific geographical place, they simply invite the viewer to recall fond memories of spending time in nature, making the perfect point of interest in any home.
